about

Tessa is a graduate of Dominican University, San Rafeal, California where she completed a 3-year Master’s program in Clinical Marriage and Family Therapy, specializing in Art Therapy. This university, nestled in the picturesque San Fransisco, California mountains, and experience being a mountaineering guide in British Columbia provided her a distinctive perspective on healing. Her studies focused on the clinical psychology, nature-based, and art-based therapeutic modalities.

Before Tessa’s graduate studies, she earned a degree in Art Education from the TCU, specializing in Printmaking, Ceramics and Psychology. This academic journey equipped her with a strong foundation in art, connection, human development, and life stages.

Tessa’s path to becoming an Art Therapist, Marriage and Family Therapist, and Clinical Counsellor began with her work within the field of education. Recognizing a pressing need for mental health support in education systems, propelled her to obtain a master’s degree. She immersed herself in roles that ranged from addressing childhood trauma in schools to facilitating therapeutic interventions in assisted living and memory care settings.

Tessa adopts a strengths-based approach to counseling, emphasizing the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit. She firmly believes in viewing clients holistically, understanding that each individual brings a wealth of experiences and potential. Tessa approaches therapy with gentleness and compassion as she collaborates and dives into possible root causes of symptoms that are surfacing. Tessa feels deeply honored each time someone chooses to share their journey with her, and she strives to cultivate a supportive, nurturing space for every individual.

Outside of work

In the ebb and flow of life beyond work, Tessa’s heart finds its rhythm in nature. Whether she’s navigating mountain trails or embarking on ocean adventures,  an unmistakable zest for life radiates from her. Amidst grand adventures, the simple joy of walking with her furry pup (Koru) grounds her. Tessa thrives in the warmth of bonfires, surrounded by friends and shared stories. The beach is her sanctuary, a tranquil haven for rejuvenation, and family time is a cornerstone of her identity. As an artisan with a passion for printmaking, painting, and clay, a culinary enthusiast, and an explorer immersing herself in diverse cultures, Tessa weaves a rich tapestry of creativity and authenticity in every aspect of her life.
